Bluefield State University and the Appalachian School of Law have launched a new 3+3 Accelerated Law Degree Program, offering students a faster and more affordable way to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctor in just six years.

How the 3+3 Program Works

  • Students complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences (Political Science concentration) at Bluefield State.
  • They begin law school in their fourth year.
  • First-year law school credits count toward the completion of their undergraduate degree.

This structure allows students to graduate one year earlier, reducing tuition and living expenses while providing early exposure to law coursework, personalized advising, and continued access to financial aid. While Political Science is recommended, students may choose other majors that meet program requirements.

Partner Law Schools

Bluefield State offers two law school options for students in the 3+3 program:

  • Appalachian School of Law (Grundy, VA)
    • Requirements: 3.0 GPA, 151 LSAT
  • University of Akron School of Law (Akron, OH)
    • Recommendations: 3.5 GPA, 153 LSAT

“This partnership opens an exciting door for Bluefield State students who want to pursue a legal career while saving both time and money,” said Dr. Darrin Martin, President of Bluefield State University.

According to Daeshawn Barrett, Esq. of the Appalachian School of Law, the partnership supports their mission to prepare practice-ready lawyers who understand and serve their communities.
