West Virginia Extends a Warm Embrace to the Black Farmer’s Index (BFI)

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

In May, BBG proudly supported BFI’s inaugural visit to the state, inspired by the compelling stories of local champions like Jason Tartt and T & T Organic. After reading BBG’s articles featuring these inspiring figures, BFI was eager to explore West Virginia’s agricultural landscape firsthand. BFI is spearheaded by Ark Republic, and stands at the forefront of combating food insecurity and systemic disparities in agriculture, with a particular focus on uplifting Black farmers and growers nationwide. Originating in response to the heightened shortages during the global pandemic, BFI has swiftly evolved into a multifaceted platform, connecting over approximately 1,300 Black agriculturalists with consumers and essential resources.

The Black Farmer’s Index is the largest, free, most comprehensive directory of Black Farmers. The website is a guide connecting people to traditional and non-traditional growers across the country, from row crop farmers, ranchers, vegetable and fruit producers to beekeepers, fisherfolk, foragers, vintners, and more.
