Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

At Black By God (BBG), we believe in storytelling’s transformative power to shape how people view themselves, their communities, and the world. Our mission is rooted in amplifying Appalachian voices, celebrating resilience, and inspiring meaningful change.

This vision inspired an exciting collaboration with students from Marshall University’s Film Production Fundamentals class, led by Professor Tijah Baumgarner. We’ve merged classroom learning with real-world storytelling to create media that reflects BBG.

BBG’s First Video: The Cybersecurity Connection

Our partnership launched with a compelling video highlighting the BBG Tech initiative. How prepared are we to face the evolving cyber threats of today and tomorrow? This video features interviews with professors from Marshall University’s renowned cybersecurity program, offering insights into digital security, the challenges we face, and the innovations poised to transform how we protect ourselves online.

What Is This Project About?

Marshall University’s Film Production Fundamentals class provides students with hands-on experience that mirrors the workflow of a professional production company. Under the mentorship of BBG professionals, students are divided into small teams to produce impactful media for real-world clients.

This year, students focused on three BBG initiatives:

  • BBG Tech: Exploring the intersection of technology and community through stories highlighting how tech impacts Appalachia’s lives.
  • Social Media Senator: Revitalizing BBG Publisher and Founder Crystal Good’s dynamic “Social Media Senator” persona, creatively showcasing digital literacy and civic engagement.

  • Folk Reporters: Capturing hyper-local stories from public meetings celebrating the culture, history, and resilience through media.
