Invest in Us: NAACP Huntington-Cabell Calls for Support Ahead of 2025 Freedom Fund Banquet

By Black By God – The West Virginian
For more than a century, the NAACP has been on the frontlines of the fight for civil rights, justice, and equity in Black communities across America. Here in West Virginia, the Huntington-Cabell Branch continues to carry that mission forward — and this fall, they’re inviting us to join them in building power.
The 2025 Freedom Fund Banquet is more than just an annual tradition — it’s a celebration of resilience, progress, and collective responsibility. It’s also one of the most important fundraisers of the year for the branch, fueling advocacy, education, and community programs right here in Appalachia.
Why Black Appalachia Should Show Up
The banquet isn’t just about raising money — it’s about raising voices. For Black Appalachians, supporting this work ensures that our unique challenges and opportunities are represented in statewide and national conversations about equity. From dismantling systemic barriers to building pathways for the next generation, the NAACP’s presence in Huntington matters for all of us.
This year’s banquet is a chance for us to invest back into the institution that has long fought for our dignity and our future.
Two Ways to Support
The Huntington-Cabell Branch is asking for our help in two specific ways:
- Spread the word — Share the Sponsorship Letter with your networks. Black-owned businesses, churches, sororities/fraternities, community organizations, and family circles are all powerful spaces to connect potential sponsors to the cause.
- Become a sponsor yourself — Whether as an individual, family, or organization, consider stepping into sponsorship. Every contribution, large or small, is a direct investment in justice and community uplift in West Virginia.
The Power of the Freedom Fund
Funds raised through the banquet sustain year-round work: voter education, youth engagement, and advocacy for policies that address systemic racism. They also support spaces of joy and culture that affirm Black identity in Appalachia.
For Black By God readers, this is about more than attending an event. It’s about aligning our dollars and our influence with an institution that continues to fight for us.
