Call for Graphic Designer

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Black By God: The West Virginian (BBG) is looking for a graphic designer to collaborate on an upcoming special print publication and its accompanying promotional materials. This is a paid, project-based opportunity, with design work beginning immediately.

This full-color print project is rooted in visual storytelling – design that does more than arrange text, but helps readers feel the history, context, and community behind each story. The designer will work closely with BBG’s editorial team on a long-form publication and help carry that visual language into promotional and launch materials.

This publication is part of BBG’s ongoing commitment to documenting Black life, history, and culture in West Virginia – the stories that are often overlooked, under-archived, or misunderstood. Design plays a critical role in that work. We’re looking for a designer who sees layout, typography, and imagery as tools for storytelling and care, and who’s excited to help bring these stories to life in print.

About the Role

We’re looking to connect with graphic designers who enjoy print and editorial work and are excited by long-form storytelling in a physical format. This project is for someone who likes thinking about how design shapes that way stories are experienced – from pacing and layout to typography and visual flow. Experience with print production is welcome, and so is curiosity and a willingness to learn. A background in community-centered, cultural, or social justice storytelling is especially aligned with this work.
