Black Storytelling and Policymaking in West Virginia

BBG is working every day to fulfill our mission of building a civically engaged community news platform.

We’ve created the Citizens Guide to Online Advocacy For The 2022 West Virginia Legislative Session.

none

The 2022 edition of the BBG Citizen’s Guide to Online Advocacy includes a comprehensive list of all West Virginia Senate members and House members. In addition, it provides all of their contact information, including socials with details on how to advocate via social media.

Our guide is just one of many products and events that center on political literacy:

We are producing a special legislative print that will drop on Feb. 11th.

We welcome your editorial content and policy information.

Our deadline is Jan. 25th.

We are proud to co-host policy education events and introduce our readers to the panelists of the 2nd Young, Gifted, and Black West Virginia Policy Makers in a unique audio series hosted by Malik Smith with support from Producer Leeshia Lee.

BBG Publishers Note

Dear Readers,

2022 is coming in fast and furious. Much like the cars my Auntie and Grandma drove in their moonshine days. I told Jay Leno about it on You Bet Your Life!

none

The face of a West Virginia moonshiner in America’s consciousness is not Black women but there is a thick history here.

Winning a game show was fun. (yes, I won)It reminds me of two of my favorite poets, Gwendolyn Brooks, a five-time Jeopardy champion, and Doug Van Gundy, who won “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.”Perhaps I have some moonshine poems in the still!

But, I always feel like a winner with your support even without Jay and Kevin!Thank you. And, a special thanks to artist Liz Pavlovic who is donating50% of the proceeds of the Abominable Joe Man sticker to BBG!

none

We appreciate all your donations, time, and talents toward building BBG. The Legislature is going to keep us busy. We hope to be a resource and share information with you over the next 60 days.

We highly recommend signing up for Mountain State Spotlight Power and Possums newsletter.

In Gratitude,

~ Crystal Good
