Marshall University and The Dr. Carter G. Woodson Lyceum are proud to announce the 2026 Centennial Celebration of Negro History Week, the precursor to Black History Month. This historic milestone will be commemorated with a major symposium, “Celebrating an American Milestone,” taking place March 5–7, 2026, at Marshall University and West Virginia State University.

Scholars, educators, students, and community members are invited to submit proposals for papers and panels by June 1, 2025. Topics may include religion, economic development, education, and other themes central to Black history and culture.

In addition, free online Black History courses will be offered in October 2025 and February 2026, inspired by Dr. Carter G. Woodson’s original correspondence courses. These short, accessible classes are open to learners of all ages and backgrounds, with opportunities to earn certificates.
