Black By God Feature: A Taste of Black History at the Farm to Table Dinner

After a historic Juneteenth celebration, Chef Ke is back for another unforgettable Farm-to-table dinner experience. On Friday, February 21 at 5 p.m., at J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works, celebrate Black History Month with a special evening filled with soul food and live entertainment.
J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works is located in Malden, WV, the heart of the Appalachian region. It is a family-owned business deeply rooted in history and inspired by a love for food, salt, and farming, as well as the stunning landscape of the Appalachian Mountains, J.Q. Dickinson is the only refined curator of fine Appalachian artisanal goods in West Virginia. For more than 120 years, the Dickinson family produced salt, making the region one of the leading salt producers in the country.
Chef Ke is the first African American female chef in West Virginia culinary history to host a Farm to Table dinner. For this special dinner, she will prepare a four-course meal celebrating the rich flavors of Soul Food while honoring the legacy of Black history.
The evening will begin with a delightful Black-Eyed Pea Hummus, topped with roasted garlic and chili oil, crispy chicken skin, and Mear Mae’s micros. The second course features a vibrant Soul Salad, made with mixed greens, pickled beets, roasted sweet potatoes, garlic & herb croutons, cherry tomatoes, a soft-boiled egg, and house honey mustard, garnished with Oh My Greens edible flowers. For the third course, guests will indulge in a hearty Seafood Gumbo with woodfire Andouille chicken sausage, served with jasmine rice and green onions. To finish, the dessert course will offer a decadent Apple Butter Pound Cake accompanied by woodfire apples, house whipped cream, J Caramel, and more Oh My Greens edible flowers for a sweet, memorable end to the meal.

The evening will feature live music by the talented Jordan Dyer Trio, along with poetry selections from the incredible storyteller Ilene Evans.
