WVSU announces 2026-27 women’s basketball schedule

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University women’s basketball head coach Whitney Bays has unveiled the 2026-27 Yellow Jackets schedule. WVSU will play 13 games inside the Walker Convocation Center, highlighted by the annual rivalry matchup against the University of Charleston set for Jan. 20.
 
“We are excited for our 2026-27 schedule and the opportunities it brings,” Bays said. “We’ve challenged our team with opponents and environments that will push us and prepare us for our goals this season. We’re ready to get to work and represent West Virginia State the right way.”
 
The Yellow Jackets open the season Nov. 12 with an exhibition at Marshall University before tipping off the regular season Nov. 18 at Slippery Rock University. WVSU hosts its home opener Nov. 24 against Ohio Dominican University. Following its final non-conference home contest Nov. 28 against the University of Findlay, WVSU opens Mountain East Conference play Dec. 2 against Frostburg State University.
 
Following the holiday break, the Yellow Jackets return to action Jan. 2 at Shawnee State University before returning to the Walker Convocation Center Jan. 6 to host Davis & Elkins College. Additional schedule highlights include the Jan. 20 rivalry game against Charleston, along with home conference matchups against Glenville State University, Fairmont State University, Shawnee State, and Wheeling University to round out the home slate.
 
The regular-season finale takes place Feb. 27 at Charleston. The Mountain East Conference Tournament is set for March 3-7 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va., with the top 10 teams in the final conference standings earning a tournament berth.
