Are You Registered to Vote? The Clock is Ticking

The countdown is on!

October 13 is the deadline to make certain that you are registered to vote in the November 3 General Election.

You can easily check if you are properly registered online at the WV Secretary of State’s (WV SOS) Am I Registered To Vote webpage.

If you need to register or update your registration, go to the WV SOS’s Register to Vote webpage. You can register online, by mail (download the mail-in application at the link) or in-person at your County Clerk’s office. Find the location of your County Clerk’s office here. You may want to call them to check their operating hours.

To register to vote or update your voter registration online, you will have to provide the following information:

  • Your name as it appears on your West Virginia driver’s license or ID card
  • Your date of birth
  • Your West Virginia driver’s license or ID card number
  • Your last four digits of your Social Security Number

You may also be able to find groups out and about in your community conducting voter registration drives. If you are helping in a drive or know of one coming up, please let folks know by commenting on BBG’s socials.

Why vote?

If you’ve ever thought, why bother, why should I vote, please remember Black Voters Matter! If you think there isn’t power in your vote, then please consider all the current Federal Administration’s efforts to make it harder for People of Color and women in general to vote. From the Save Ac,t to efforts to derail mail-in voting, to attempts to gut the Voting Rights Act and on and on, the people in power right now simply don’t want you to exercise your right to vote.

“Your vote is your voice, but your action is your power. Don’t just show up at the polls. Show up in your community, stay informed, speak up, and stay engaged. Vote. Act. Make an impact. Because voting plus action equals power,” says Dr. Shanequa Smith, Founder of the Black Voter Impact Initiative West Virginia.

As we approach election day, BBG will be publishing candidate profiles, stories from the state’s political districts, and much more, so please subscribe to our newsletters and social media channels and check-in often at our website.
