Celebrate Freedom: Juneteenth Events in West Virginia and Beyond

By Black By God Staff
Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally freed, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a day that represents Black liberation, resistance, and joy, and across the country, communities are showing up to celebrate.
From the hills of West Virginia to major cities nationwide, Juneteenth 2025 brings people together in the spirit of freedom, remembrance, and Black excellence.

Why Juneteenth Still Matters
In a country that continues to reckon with racial injustice, **Juneteenth reminds us how long freedom was denied—**and how hard-won progress still is. Here in West Virginia and beyond, Black communities are reclaiming space, celebrating heritage, and building futures rooted in liberation.
Whether you’re dancing at a block party, marching in a parade, supporting Black vendors, or simply learning more, your participation is a tribute to those who came before us.
