Jayli Phillips Makes a Trip to the White House
Hello everyone! I recently got the chance to visit the White House in Washington DC. It was such an awesome experience, I knew I had to share it with BBG!
Did you know that 1600 Pennsylvania Ave is the most famous address in the United States? The White House happens to be the oldest public building in the District of Columbia. When I first arrived at the White House you could tell that there was top notch security. I had to go through multiple body scanners & metal detectors to even get into the building. Fun fact ,with a lengthy waiting list it is actually very hard to be able to get a tour inside of the White House.
Once we got inside the White House I learned about different rooms. I learned the White House has a movie theater, bowling alley, library and a swimming pool too. The tour also took us to some of the famous rooms that presidents entertained and dined in with guests. Rooms like the Blue Room, Red Room, Green Room, the State Dining Room, and the China Room were all on the same floor and the tour guides had lots of cool facts to share about each room. It was interesting to see that some rooms had color themes, antique furniture and lots of portraits of past presidents and First Ladies.

After the White House tour, I got a chance to visit US Senator Joe Manchin’s office on Capitol Hill in the Senate Building. His staff was very nice and friendly to us.
Then we got to take an underground train ride to the US Capitol. Inside the Capitol we saw lots of paintings and statues. Some of the paintings showed representations of the things people did to indigenous people and how this country became a nation. There were lots of statues in one of the rooms. The statues were people from each state who made an impact on the world.
I learned so much history about our nation by visiting these historical places. I’m so glad I got the opportunity to experience and visit the White House and US Capitol! A special thank you to my cousin Terri Berkley, the State Deputy Director with US Senator Joe Manchin’s Office for organizing the tour for our family.
