Incarcerated Fayette County delegate resigns seat in House of Delegates; remains on November ballot

Elliott Pritt, the now former Fayette County public school teacher and Republican legislative representative - during a court appearance on Monday - waived his right to preliminary and detention hearings, meaning he will remain in federal incarceration. Shortly thereafter, Pritt submitted a letter to Del. Roger Hanshaw, R-Clay, the speaker of West Virginia’s House of Delegates.

About 40 people packed a room of the county courthouse in the small town of Spencer, the county seat. People wanted to know what the county commissioners are going to do about the proposed massive high voltage power line buildout dubbed the Valley North Project.

Evacuation order issued for parts of Buckhannon; Upshur, Lewis and Taylor Counties hit hard by floods

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning, the Upshur County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) issued an immediate evacuation order for residents of 1st Street through 5th Street and Cleveland Avenue in Buckhannon, due to rapidly worsening conditions resulting from severe flooding. Any residents remaining in the impacted area must evacuate at this time.
